parking

i love summer in nyc.   most new yorkers flee to the hamptons or europe.  weekends, especially holiday weekends in the summer, are my favorite time to be here.  it’s not unusual to have to drive around the neighborhood for up to 45 minutes in order to secure a parking spot in nyc – for those of us who cannot yet afford to spend $500 a month to park in a local garage.  my garage is in harlem.  i pay $243 a month – and only because i was able to haggle the garage management down from $300 after the economy took a turn for the worst last november.  i have to take a bus or a $7.00 cab ride and tip the attendant another $2.00 everytime I want to use my car.  this is why i love summer time!

it’s 4th of july weekend.  you may have to be from ny to fully comprehend the excitement i felt as i walked down 83rd street yesterday and saw this – all on one block:

3 parking spots!

3 parking spots!

2 parking spots!

2 parking spots!

another spot!

another spot!
