you know how it is when you learn something new all of the sudden it seems to pop up everywhere? or, you get a red car and all you notice on the road is red cars just like yours. since i’ve been looking for a job, i can’t help but to notice all of the jobs people are doing that i never really paid attention to. like the security guard who sits in the port-a-potty all day long (see port-a-potty post).
i very well remember being unemployed while living in california. i resorted to selling roofs for home depot. i’m not sure what i was thinking when i accepted the offer after they informed me that i would sell the new roof to my prospect after i climbed up and measured the square footage myself. that is the kind of thing people resort to out of desperation. that is the last time i was desperate for a job. i’m sure the port-a-potty guard never envisioned himself in his current position either.
just the other day i got really scared for my future employment when i saw this:

“The great mystery is not that we should have been thrown down here at random between the profusion of matter and that of the stars; it is that from our very prison we should draw, from our own selves, images powerful enough to deny our nothingness”
