suburban shopping

no matter what you want, you can find it somewhere in the city.  in the suburbs, not so much.  i did expect this to be true but i also figured fresh veges would not be the item i would have a hard time finding, after all, this is the  “garden state.”  my first stop upon arrival was ‘bardy farms’, a local farm where my mom would shop a lot when i was growing up.  it somehow managed to survive the ‘sub-urbanization’.  at bardy farms you could get fresh jersey corn, giant really red juicy tomatoes, all things home grown, plus jams and home made desserts.  i was surprised to find it was still around after all these years.  i was even more surprised to find haas avocados, dole lettuce and all the regular prepackaged chemical foods found in the regular supermarket.  no more home grown fresh jersey produce – what a disappointment.

this weekend while aimlessly driving though a nearby town in search of photo opportunities,   i finally found a food store with fresh veges! here it is:

i purchased 1 tomato, 1 zuchini, 1 squash, 1 eggplant and 4 beautiful flowers. i happily put $6 in the container provided and headed home for lunch.  did you ever see such beautiful vegetables?
